Ghost Protein Cereal

Ghost is a brand known for its incredible branding and impressive partnerships, so when I heard they teamed up with General Mills to create a protein cereal, I was equal parts excited and skeptical.

I mean, Ghost’s products always look incredibly cool, but often times I find that they don’t live up to the hype (like the Chips Ahoy protein shake).

The graphic designer in me is blown away by the branding of all Ghost products, but the protein snack reviewer is unimpressed. Here’s hoping that this protein cereal changes that.

Ghost was able to lock down a General Mills partnership for this one, meaning this cereal uses actual Lucky Charms marshmallows. Because of that, this is not necessarily a keto-friendly cereal (although still low in carbs overall) and the ingredients may not be as impressive as you’d like.

Honestly, I don’t care about the ingredients not being super clean. This is a breakfast cereal with protein added- it’s not trying to compete with the ultra-clean options out there. If you’re looking for a super clean breakfast cereal, I’d stick with Three Wishes.

Ingredients aside, a getting 17-18 grams of protein for 170 calories in one cup of cereal is very impressive.

Marshmallow Ghost Protein Cereal Review

The marshmallow flavor has actual Lucky Charms marshmallows in it, which excites the cereal lover in me. Thanks to the marshmallows, this cereal smells incredible- almost like a funfetti frosting.

We all know what Lucky Charms marshmallows taste like, but what about the protein cereal portion? The puffs themselves have a nice birthday cake vibe going on, and the texture is surprisingly airy with a good crunch. Considering many protein cereals are hard and overly crunchy, I’m thrilled with the lighter puff.

Now, I will say that when you combine the cereal with the marshmallows and milk, it becomes a little more apparent that you’re eating a protein cereal. The puffs on their own don’t seem overly dry, but when you experience it alongside the marshmallows and milk, you realize just how dry the cereal itself is.

Is the cereal so dry that I dislike it? Not at all; it’s still delicious. But if this is your first experience with protein cereal, you may find it a bit dry.

All of that being said, this is a sweet breakfast cereal with a satisfying crunch, Lucky Charms marshmallows, and 17 grams of protein per serving. There’s a lot to love.

PB Ghost Protein Cereal Review

I won’t beat around the bush here: the peanut butter flavor is mind-blowing.

I’m not exaggerating when I say this is the most accurate peanut butter-tasting snack I’ve ever had. It’s like they managed to capture the essence of peanut butter and infuse it into every little cereal puff.

Each puff is coated in a peanut butter powder that adds extra moisture, making the overall experience much more pleasant than the Marshmallow flavor.

And when you add milk? Game over. The peanut butter flavor just intensifies, and it’s like having a bowl of peanut butter (in the best way possible).

As you eat this cereal, it breaks down to become sticky in your mouth the way real peanut butter does. The peanut butter lover in me is a huge fan of this one, and I honestly don’t think you’d be able to tell that this was a protein cereal if you didn’t know it.

Ghost Protein Cereal: The Best on the Market?

I’ve tried every protein cereal out there, and you can find my full ranking of over 20 different protein cereals right here.

I’ve always said Magic Spoon was the best, and I don’t think any other protein cereals have been able to match the flavor that Magic Spoon has been able to accomplish. But my friends, I think Ghost may just have Magic Spoon beat.

Ghost Protein Cereal has a better texture (no sticky, slimy mouth feel here) and the peanut butter flavor is easily the best protein cereal I’ve ever had.

The marshmallow flavor is impressive in its own right, and the addition of Lucky Charms marshmallows is very fun, but the cereal itself is a bit dry for my liking.

When it comes to an official ranking, I think Magic Spoon and Ghost protein cereal are tied at the top. If I had to choose just one flavor to take the top spot, Ghost PB protein cereal would take it. But since Magic Spoon offers such a wide variety of flavors, it’s tough to say they can’t share the top spot.

I have to hand it to Ghost and General Mills: they knocked it out of the park with this protein cereal. The peanut butter flavor is an absolute must-try for any peanut butter lover, and the marshmallow flavor is a fun option that is worth trying. Yes, it’s a bit pricey, but we’ve come to expect that with protein cereal.

If you’re looking for a protein cereal that actually tastes good and doesn’t feel like you’re eating cardboard, give Ghost Protein Cereal a try. Trust me, your taste buds will thank you.

REVIEW: Ghost Protein Cereal – Better Than Magic Spoon?
Summary
I was fully expecting to not love this cereal because I have historically viewed Ghost products as over-hyped and gimmicky, but they nailed this protein cereal. It's different than other options in the sense that this is mostly just a high-protein breakfast cereal and not a keto/low-carb alternative. But the flavors are awesome. Marshmallow is a bit more dry, but the peanut butter flavor is a near-perfect cereal.
