Wilde Protein Crackers Might Be Better Than Cheez-It Crackers

When I saw that Wilde released a protein cracker made from chicken, I was equal parts confused, disgusted, and curious.

Wilde has been making protein chips from chicken for a while now, and they are very popular. I don’t particularly love them, but I see the appeal. To me, crunchy chicken chips at least make a little bit of sense because they are so thin.

But crackers made from chicken just feels… weird.

Wilde Protein Crackers

To be fair, the cracker itself is a combination of chicken breast and wheat flour, so that certainly helps. Still, the idea of eating crunchy chicken breast crackers was a hurdle I needed to get over.

Wilde has a handful of flavors, but my store only had two of them: hot honey and buffalo cheddar. Luckily for me, I love spice, so I wasn’t mad about these options. Otherwise, Wilde offers a classic cheddar and a smoked gouda version.

While the idea of chicken breast crackers was throwing me off a bit, seeing the macros and ingredients helped to put my mind at ease.

Wilde protein crackers macros & ingredients

140 calories with 12 grams of protein is great, and it comes in very similar to Quest Protein Crackers, just with a different serving size.

The main ingredients are chicken breast, wheat flour, sourdough, and cheddar cheese. There are other ingredients in there, but the cracker itself keeps it simple.

The bag promises that the cracker “crunches like the cracker you grew up on,” which is a direct comparison to Cheez-It (I can say it; they can’t).

And boy, they are not lying.

Wilde Protein Crackers Are Nearly Perfect

Right off the bat, everything about these crackers screams “Cheez-It.”

When Quest released their protein crackers, I was impressed by how similar they came to the beloved cracker. But there was always a slight difference in the texture and overall look.

With Wilde Protein Crackers, I’m not sure you can even tell the difference between these and Cheez-It crackers.

They look identical, they feel identical, and they even smell identical.

Texture of wilde protein cracker

If you’re worried that a cracker made from chicken breast would be greasy or have a weird texture as you chew, I’m here to assure you that none of that is true.

These eat exactly like Cheez-Its.

Now, I didn’t try the original cheddar, but the buffalo cheddar tastes like a Cheez-It with an appropriate flavor kick of hot sauce.

I’d even go as far as saying that they taste cheesier than Cheez-Its, and I think I enjoy them even more.

And as a huge fan of hot honey, that flavor absolutely blew me away.

The second you pop one of these crackers into your mouth, you taste the sweetness from the honey. But it doesn’t taste like some flavor-infused science experiment; it tastes like actual honey.

Then, as you chew, that spice creeps up on you. It’s not overpowering, and it won’t make you sweat. It’s the perfect amount of heat to pair with the sweetness.

And that cheesiness still comes through perfectly, too.

Wilde protein cracker

I have no idea how Wilde did it, but I’m not going to question such a good thing.

These protein crackers offer the exact experience you’d expect from Cheez-Its, but with a superior flavor.

Oh yeah, and they happen to have 12 grams of complete protein per serving, too.

All you have to do is look past the fact that these are made from chicken (or embrace it, if it’s an idea that excites you), and these may very well become your favorite protein snack on the market.

Because honestly, it might be mine.

Cheese crackers have never been my go-to snack, but these Wilde protein crackers are going to remain one of my go-to protein snacks as long as they are on the market.

I truly enjoy these more than virtually any other cracker I’ve ever had, protein or not. That praise feels way too high, but my reviews are all about honesty, and that’s exactly how I feel about these.

Well done, Wilde. Well done.

Summary
I was extremely skeptical about protein crackers made from chicken breast. I don't love chicken-based chips, but these crackers are insanely good. You would NEVER know these were made from chicken, and if I'm being honest, I think I like these more than Cheez-It crackers.
