When I saw Ignite bars at the store, I knew I needed to give them a try. As a lover of Rice Krispies treats, anything even remotely resembling one of those bars is worth trying in my book.
While blueberry wouldn’t be my preferred flavor for a crispy treat, that’s all that was in stock, so we’re rolling with it.
Looking at the nutrition facts of this bar, two things stand out as being confusing:
First and foremost, the “8g” being a smaller font size really freaks me out as a graphic designer. But I can look past that.
The two elements I find confusing are that it’s not clear how this product is actually keto-friendly, and the box shows 15 grams of protein while the individual bar shows 14 grams of protein.
When it comes to being a keto bar, it’s clearly due to allulose being one of the main ingredients. However, there is no indication on the box of how many net carbs are actually in these bars, so it’d be really tough to track for keto purposes.
Luckily for me, I’m not keto, so I can judge these bars purely on taste.
The bar itself is a pretty impressive size, and on looks alone, it definitely resembles a Rice Krispies Treat. Much like the ONE Crunch Bars, there’s no marshmallow holding everything together, but that’s to be expected in a keto option.
The bar is made up mostly of whey protein crisps, so it’s far crunchier than your typical marshmallow treat made from puffed rice. But again, that’s to be expected.
Unfortunately, this bar seriously misses the mark on flavor. It smells strongly of blueberry, which is great, but the flavor just isn’t there.
Considering the small ingredients list, it isn’t a huge surprise, but this bar mostly tastes like plain whey protein and coconut flour. If you’ve tasted either of those ingredients before, you know that they’re not exactly known for being delicious.
You get some blueberry in the bar, but the vanilla is nowhere to be found.
Because of the lack of sweetness, there’s also a pretty strong bitter aftertaste in these bars as well. So much so, in fact, that I couldn’t bring myself to finish the bar.
As a “health food” bar, I can see the appeal. The ingredients are very minimal, so if you’re keto and need a low-sugar option, you may enjoy these.
For me, I’ve tried way too many other keto-friendly bars that satisfy my sweet tooth much more than these, so I’ll stick with those.
