Highkey is known for making keto-friendly snacks, but they’re not typically protein-packed.
Highkey used to make one of my favorite protein cereals out there, but it was discontinued to allow them to focus on their other products. So, seeing them back in the protein game is a nice surprise for me.
Highkey does sell crunch cookies, but they’re a keto-focused product and not necessarily high-protein (300 calories and 7g of protein).
These new protein cookies are definitely here to challenge other protein cookies on the market.
If this were a protein bar, 220 calories and 14 grams of protein wouldn’t be insanely impressive, but it’s pretty standard for protein cookies.
For reference, Quest protein cookies contain 240 calories and 15 grams of protein, so it’s very similar.
The main difference between Highkey protein cookies and others is that they seem to be much smaller.
Considering the main ingredient is almond butter, it’s no surprise that the cookie is smaller. In terms of weight, it’s not much different from other options, but if you’re expecting a large cookie, you might find yourself disappointed here.
Regardless of size, there is no denying that this is a beautiful chocolate chip cookie. Right out of the package, it’s clear that this is not your typical dry & dense protein cookie.
This protein cookie is indeed soft and chewy, and thanks to the almond butter, is not dry at all.
I was worried that the artificial sweetener taste would come through (something I noticed with their discontinued protein cereal) but I truly could not taste it at all. There is no artificial aftertaste or discernable protein flavor; just a delicious cookie.
I tend to not love almond butter, but the flavor of this protein cookie is truly that of a chocolate chip cookie. The almond butter gives it a solid base, but the flavor doesn’t really come through (which is a good thing).
Let’s be honest here: you’d never be fooled into thinking this is a homemade chocolate chip cookie.
It’s more dense & chewy than a regular cookie, but as far as pre-packed cookies are concerned, it’s a really good option.
Yes, I do wish it were larger, but for a protein cookie that actually tastes good, it’s a sacrifice worth making.
With just 4g net carbs, this is definitely still a keto-focused snack with an emphasis on protein, but it’s truly an enjoyable protein snack.
At the time of writing this, it’s easily the best protein cookie I’ve had.
