I’ve tried a lot of protein snacks in my day. Some are great, some are okay, and some are… well, let’s just say they’re not worth the calories.
But rarely do I come across a product that’s so bad, I can’t even finish it. Enter Legion Protein Cookies.
Legion has a pretty solid reputation in the supplement world, and I thoroughly enjoy their protein powder, so I expected these cookies to be decent. Many people swear by their products, which made me even more curious to try these out.
Spoiler alert: I was in for a rude awakening.
Let’s start with the basics. Each cookie packs 260 calories and 15 grams of protein. Not terrible for a protein cookie, but not exactly mind-blowing either. You’re also looking at 30 grams of carbs, 7 grams of fiber, and 9 grams of sugar. On paper, it’s not the worst nutritional profile I’ve seen, but it’s not winning any awards either.
We should talk about expectations versus reality. The picture on the package shows a delicious-looking soft-baked cookie, packed with plenty of chocolate chips. It’s the kind of image that makes you excited to rip the package open. But once you do, the reality hits. And it looks… very different.
Upon opening the package, the first thing that hit me was the smell. And not in a good way.
It had this odd, almost burnt scent that immediately set off warning bells. But hey, I’ve had protein snacks that smelled weird but tasted great, so I tried to keep an open mind.
The appearance of the cookie was the next red flag. Instead of the light, chocolatey cookie from the package, I was staring at a much darker, spongier-looking disc.
The chocolate chips were hiding somewhere in the cookie, with only a select few popping out. It looked dry, dense, and nothing like the soft-baked deliciousness that is on the package.
But the real test is always in the taste, right?
Well, I wish I could say it redeemed itself here, but… it didn’t. Not even close.
The first bite confirmed my worst fears. It tasted like a bizarre mix of burnt, stale bread with a bitter aftertaste that lingered way too long. Somehow, it managed to be both overwhelmingly bad and oddly bland at the same time.
Thinking (or hoping) that maybe I just got a bad cookie, I tried a few different ones. But nope, they were all consistently bad. It’s rare that I can’t finish a protein snack, but these Legion cookies defeated me.
I don’t want to come off as too mean, but I’m truly baffled by how these made it to market. Did no one in product development actually taste these? Are there people out there who genuinely enjoy this flavor profile? If so, I’d love to meet them and understand what I’m missing.
In the world of protein snacks, there are often trade-offs. Maybe the macros are great but the taste is just okay, or vice versa. But with these Legion Protein Cookies, I’m struggling to find any redeeming qualities. The macros are average at best, and the taste is, well, let’s just say it’s memorable for all the wrong reasons.
If you’re looking for a protein cookie, any other option on the market would be better than these.
Legion might make some great supplements, so I’ll hold out hope that they may reformulate these in the future and release a new version that is…palatable.
These cookies are a hard pass from me, and I’d recommend you save your money (and taste buds) for something else.
