Legion Cinnamon Cereal Whey

I’ve been using PEScience protein powder for years now, mainly because I’m a big fan of their whey/casein blend. It’s been my go-to, especially for baking.

But since I’ve been using this protein powder for so long, it had me curious how other protein powders would stack up, especially in baking.

After hearing everyone on Instagram (at least in my fitness circle) rave about Legion, I figured, why not give it a try? Time to add a little whey protein into my life.

For this review, I’m focusing on the drinkability of the protein as protein shakes. I’ve yet to try this protein powder in my recipes, so consider this a review for your post-workout shake needs.

Stay tuned to my main blog where I post recipes because I will undoubtedly try some whey in my recipes going forward.

Legion describes Whey+ as a no-fuss, high-quality protein source that won’t leave you feeling bloated or with an upset stomach. They take pride in their Truly Grass Fed™ milk, transparency in their ingredients, and high manufacturing standards.

And hey, they’ve got a “No Return Necessary” money-back guarantee, so there’s really no reason to not try this protein.

Nutritionally, whey protein is pretty standard across the board, so we won’t get into the weeds with that. Let’s just get right into the taste test.

Legion’s French Vanilla Whey+

Legion Vanilla Whey

First up, French Vanilla.

This one was okay, but to be perfectly honest, is nothing to write home about.

To be fair, it is vanilla, which is another word for “plain,” so you shouldn’t expect to be blown away.

The vanilla flavor is there, but not as rich or creamy as I would’ve liked or am used to. There was a slight bitterness to it, which wasn’t off-putting, but not something that I usually present with whey protein. Either way, I was perfectly happy drinking a full shake of this flavor.

I’ve had better vanilla protein powders, but this one still holds up as a decent option. While it might not be the star of your smoothie, it’ll play a nice supporting role.

The taste doesn’t blow me away, but I do think it’ll work very well in recipes, so stay tuned for that. When it comes to protein baking, you don’t want something overly sweet because you want the protein powder to work in the background, so I do think this will work really well.

In terms of mixability, I had absolutely no problems with this protein. And that applies to all flavors- whether it was a shaker bottle or a mixer (technically a milk frother) it mixed with no issues and didn’t leave any clumps behind.

Legion’s Cinnamon Cereal Whey+

Next on the docket, Cinnamon Cereal. I heard amazing things about this flavor, and it certainly did not disappoint.

This, my friends, is something special.

This flavor tastes like a love letter to my all-time favorite cereal – Cinnamon Toast Crunch. I mean, it tastes like the leftover milk after a big bowl of that sweet, cinnamon-y goodness.

I have no clue how Legion pulled this off, but I’m here for it. When you mix it with milk, it tastes exactly like cereal milk. If you’re a fan of anything cinnamon, this one’s a home run. Heck, even if you’re not, give it a shot – there’s no reason to not like this one.

Legion Whey Protein Shake

I mixed up a protein shake with this cinnamon cereal whey, milk, and Cinnamon Toast Crunch “Cinnadust,” and it was absolutely mind-blowing. It seriously tastes just like a bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch.

I don’t drink a ton of protein shakes (I mostly use protein powder strictly for baking) but this is one of the better protein shakes I’ve had.

Since it tastes just like cereal milk, I decided to try using this cinnamon cereal flavor as my actual milk for a bowl of cereal, too.

Legion Whey with Cereal

This took a bowl of plain Cheerios and transformed it into something truly delicious.

Generally speaking, I find adding a protein shake to cereal to be an overrated combo, because I always feel like you’re better off just drinking the shake on the side rather than ruining the flavor of your cereal.

But in this case, it absolutely elevates it.

Legion’s Fruity Cereal Whey+

Legion Fruity Cereal Whey

I should have saved the Cinnamon Cereal flavor for last because that’s a very high bar to match.

Regardless of the high expectations, fruity cereal didn’t quite hit the mark for me. While there is a fruity hint to it, it remind me of cereal milk anywhere close to the way the Cinnamon Cereal flavor does.

Between the smell and the taste, this is more of a strawberry protein flavor than the Fruity Pebbles explosion I was hoping for.

It’s not a total flop by any means, but the Cinnamon Cereal flavor definitely outshines this one.

If you’re expecting Fruity Pebbles or Fruit Loops, you may find yourself disappointed in this one. But if you just want a protein powder with a fruity flavor (particularly strawberry) this may work out great for you.

The Final Scoop: Legion Whey+ Protein Powder

Mixing Legion Whey

So, what’s the bottom line?

Legion is clearly a company that’s about quality and transparency, which I’m all about.

When it comes to taste, it definitely depends on the flavor. While the vanilla and fruity cereal didn’t knock my socks off, they were still solid protein powder options. Trust me, I have tasted significantly worse.

But Cinnamon Cereal? That is one of the best-tasting protein powders I’ve ever tried, and it is enough to elevate the entire review here. There are plenty of other flavors I didn’t try, and if they are anywhere close to Cinnamon Cereal, then I can fully recommend Legion.

Will I keep enjoying Legion Whey+? Yep, especially that Cinnamon Cereal.

And who knows, the other flavors might grow on me once I start using them in recipes. But until then, I’ll be doing my best to make the Cinnamon Cereal flavor last as long as possible.

Legion, you did good with that one, real good.
