Quest Cookies are one of the better protein cookies on the market, in my opinion. They will not blow you away by any means, but as far as protein cookies are concerned, they’re a decent option.
More recently, Quest released these frosted cookies, which are a completely different product than their regular protein cookies. These are more like cake bites than cookies, as Quest seems to agree given the fact that each flavor has “cake” in the same.
But since these are technically cookies (by name, anyway) I guess we have to review them as such.
When you buy these frosted cookies, you have the option to either buy them as a pack of 2 or individually. I prefer to have them individually wrapped to keep these as a small 90-calorie snack when I want a bite of something sweet.
Looking at the macros, these frosted cookies are not overly impressive.
Sure, 11 grams of protein isn’t horrible (although the other flavors contain only 10 grams), but it’s far from ideal in a snack containing 200 calories.
When you buy these cookies individually, you have a small snack that is only 100 calories. That’s great, but when you’re looking at only 5 grams of protein, it isn’t exactly a top-tier protein snack.
But, Quest’s bread & butter is the lack of carbs in their products, and with 1g net carb in each frosted cookie, these are no exception.
Quest Strawberry Cake Frosted Cookies
Quest’s newest addition to the frosted cookie lineup are these strawberry cake frosted cookies, so let’s start with those.
You’ll also notice that these don’t really resemble cookies very much. Many moons ago, I tried Optimum Nutrition’s Cake Bites, and these very much remind me of that snack.
These are a decent size for 100 calories each, but they remind me much more of a cake bite or a cake pop than a cookie.
The flavor of these strawberry cake “cookies” is great. I was worried it would taste overly artificial, but it does remind me of strawberry cake.
You won’t get strawberry shortcake popsicle vibes from these, but there is a solid strawberry flavor both in the icing and the interior. If you’re a fan of strawberry cake, there’s nothing to dislike.
The texture is where things are interesting. To me, it truly is a combination of a cookie and a cake.
There’s a clear puffiness to these that resembles a cake, but the interior is not light & airy like cake. Rather, it is very moist & tender while still being soft.
I still think I would describe this as a cake bite rather than a cookie, but the texture falls somewhere between the two (more of a cake pop than anything else).
All of that being said, I really enjoy the texture, and the flavor of this one is great as well.
Quest Birthday Cake Frosted Cookie Review
In terms of flavor accuracy, you can certainly tell this is vanilla, but maybe a bit too much. I have a mega sweet tooth, but even I found these frosted cookies to be a bit too sweet.
Now, that’s not to say these are bad- in fact, I quite like them. However, if it were up to me, I’d bring the sweetness down a touch.
Much like the strawberry cake flavor, I would describe this as a birthday cake pop; it’s denser than cake, but still lighter than a cookie.
I love that this is a small snack for under 100 calories, and it’s perfect for when you need a bite of something sweet but don’t feel like committing to a full protein bar.
Overall, while the birthday cake frosted cookies don’t blow me away, I am more than happy to eat them.
Quest Chocolate Cake Frosted Cookie Review
The chocolate cake flavor is a tiny bit drier & denser than the birthday cake version, but that’s typically the case with anything chocolate-flavored.
In terms of flavor, Quest knocked this one out of the park.
Biting into these chocolate frosted cookies tastes like you’re eating any number of Hostess chocolate snacks: Ding Dongs, Cupcakes, Ho Hos, you name it.
Of course, these are not nearly as soft and light as Hostess snacks, but the flavor is on point.
Much like the other flavors, these don’t eat like cookies. But, if you’re a fan of chocolate cake, there’s no way you don’t love these.
Quest Frosted Cookies: Overall Thoughts
These frosted cookies from Quest are delicious as long as you’re not hoping for an actual cookie.
The texture is very similar to a cake bite or cake pop, although a bit denser than a normal cake would be.
In terms of flavor, I think these are all great. Chocolate cake is my favorite, followed by strawberry, then vanilla. Considering these contain only 5 grams of protein each, it’s no surprise that the flavor is solid.
If you’re in search of a small protein snack that can curb your sweet tooth without the sugar, these very well may do it for you.
But they’ll never scratch that itch you have for fresh-baked cookies.
