Fit Crunch Bars are arguably one of the most popular protein bars on the market today. It’s easy to see why: they are very candy bar-like with their multiple layers and generous chocolate coating. I think they’re decent, but I’ve always felt like they tasted way too artificial for my liking. Despite being okay with artificial sweeteners generally, these bars just didn’t hit the mark.
So, when Fit Crunch more recently came out with a wafer version, I wondered how they’d compare, especially since I’ve tried other wafer bars with mixed feelings. Lenny & Larry’s wafer bars were awful, but I tend to really enjoy Power Crunch Bars.
Nutritionally, these wafer bars offer the same protein as the regular Fit Crunch Bars with 16 grams of protein, but the calories are a bit higher at 240.
The main differences between this bar and regular Fit Crunch bars can be found in the fat and carbs: the wafer bar contains 14g fat compared to 8g in the regular bars, and there is now only 1 gram of sugar alcohol compared to 8 grams in the regular bars.
Here’s hoping that the reduction of sugar alcohols will lead to a more authentic flavor.
The bar is bigger than I expected, which was a nice surprise. It feels like you’re getting a good-sized snack, and I’d say it is slightly larger than a Power Crunch bar.
The first thing I noticed with this bar was how much it smells like actual peanut butter. Most peanut butter protein bars smell like peanut butter flavoring, but this one smells just like what you get when you open up a fresh jar of peanut butter, which is much more than I was expecting.
The texture is spot-on for a wafer bar – light and crunchy, exactly how you’d want it. But unlike other wafer bars, this seems to offer something unique: the top layer is crunchy, almost like a small layer of toffee.
Pair the satisfying crunch of the top layer with a creamy filling and soft, airy bottom wafer layer, and you’ve got an incredible combination of textures.
The bar itself reminds me of the peanut butter wafer bars from Power Crunch, but the crunchy top layer makes these even better.
The best part is that there’s no artificial taste at all. This was a huge relief, especially since the original Fit Crunch bars had that issue for me.
The mix of chocolate and peanut butter is fantastic, kind of like a peanut butter cup. No, you won’t be fooled into thinking you’re eating Reese’s, but this is as good a peanut butter flavor as you can expect to find in a protein bar.
I was surprisingly impressed with this one, and I ended up eating the whole bar way quicker than I anticipated. I just kept coming back for more.
Despite being a bit higher in calories and fat, these bars are delicious and worth it, in my opinion. With 240 calories and 16g of protein, they’re not the most impressive protein bar out there, but they get the job done.
I don’t buy Fit Crunch Bars very often because I think there are much better-tasting protein bars out there, but I will 100% be going out to buy these wafer bars.
Overall, these bars are an incredible way to switch things up from the usual chewy protein bars out there, and they are far and away the best protein wafer bars I’ve tried.
