I love the idea of Clio Greek Yogurt Bars, so I’ve been on the hunt to try to find them near me for a few weeks.
While I’m not the biggest Greek yogurt fan in the world, when it’s flavored, I find it to be a solid snack. And if it’s wrapped up inside of a chocolatey coating, like with these Clio bars, how can that be bad?
Considering each bar has a thick chocolate coating, I was expecting the nutrition facts to be subpar, but I’d consider these bars to be pretty impressive for what they are.
At 140 calories, these make for a great low-calorie snack, and the 9 grams of protein is very solid. Of course, regular Greek yogurt contains much more protein (80 calories and 12g protein in Light & Fit servings), but this is still a good source of protein.
When I cracked open the first bar, I was surprised to find an extremely sticky coating on the outside…
These came right out of the fridge, so it’s not like they thawed out and began to leak. Thinking maybe I was just unlucky, I proceeded to unwrap additional bars, but they all had the same sticky coating.
I have no idea if this is just the luck of the draw of the boxes I got, or if this is a regular occurrence, but it makes it nearly impossible to enjoy these bars as an on-the-go snack.
Looking at the ingredients, I have no idea what the sticky substance actually is. I’m assuming it’s just the sweetener somehow “sweating” through the chocolate, as there is no honey or syrup listed in the ingredients.
Nonetheless, if the bar is delicious, I can deal with a little stickiness.
First up, I decided to give the vanilla Clio bar a try.
I had no idea what the expect in the interior, but it’s essentially like a cheesecake filling. I appreciate the fact that these bars aren’t just Greek yogurt, or they would most certainly create a huge mess, but I wasn’t expecting them to be quite this crumbly, either.
The closest comparison truly is cheesecake, but it isn’t quite as moist as a well-made cheesecake.
Now, if this bar tasted like cheesecake, I’d be blown away, but it really just tastes like Greek yogurt. It is a Greek yogurt bar, so that’s not necessarily a bad thing, of course.
But for me, I was hoping these would be less tart than plain Greek yogurt. I happen to love Yasso bars, which are frozen Greek yogurt, because they taste super smooth and sweet with virtually no tartness at all.
This Clio bar mostly just tastes Greek yogurt with a subtle vanilla flavor to it. If you love the tartness of Greek yogurt, you’ll probably love this flavor, but it’s not for me.
The chocolate Clio Greek Yogurt Bar tells the same exact story.
The interior is cheesecake-like, and the flavor is mostly plain Greek yogurt with a hint of chocolate.
Chocolate fans might not be blown away by the one, as the chocolate flavor feels pretty subtle. Yes, there’s a generous chocolate coating on these bars, but the tartness of the yogurt very much takes center stage.
Overall, I’m not quite sure what to think of Clio Bars.
Personally, I’m not a huge fan, and here are the reasons why:
• These mostly taste like plain Greek yogurt (very tart) with a hint of added flavor.
• The exterior is extremely sticky and tough to take on-the-go.
• I’d like the interior to be softer and less dry.
I want to share the exact reasons why I don’t love these, because I know for a fact that we won’t all agree on these.
If these were softer inside and had a flavor more similar to Yasso bars (more on the sweet side and much less tart) I would be very much into these bars. But, that’s just me.
If you love plain Greek yogurt, I could see you enjoying these as a snack more than I do.
These aren’t a snack that I’ll personally buy again, but the reviews I’ve seen are mostly very positive, so you may feel differently!
