What if I told you that you could eat candy AND protein at the same time?! Yep, protein candy has arrived.
More specifically, these MusclePharm Protein Candies are basically M&M’s with a little bit of protein added to them.
An entire bag of these protein candies is 280 calories with 10g of protein, which is not very much protein for the number of calories you’re consuming.
Plus, there is a butt-ton of sugar in each bag. 29g of total sugar for the milk chocolate peanut version, and 22g of sugar for the regular protein candies.
So, these are candy. They’re candy with protein.
But how does that compare to a bag of regular M&M’s, you ask?
One bag of peanut M&M’s contains 250 calories, 13g fat, 25g sugar, and 5g protein.
Yes, you read that right: M&M’s have fewer calories, less fat, and less sugar than these MusclePharm Protein Candies.
But, you get an extra 5g of protein with these, so there’s that.
But how do they taste?
These taste just like M&M’s. Sure, the chocolate is slightly different (it’s tough to perfectly duplicate the delicious flavor of an M&M), but there’s no “protein” flavor to these whatsoever.
Considering there isn’t much protein in these, I’m glad the protein flavor is nonexistent. If you could taste the small amount, these would be a huge miss.
The milk chocolate protein candies taste like regular M&Ms, and the peanut protein candies taste just like peanut M&Ms.
If you like that candy, you’ll like these. But as far as a protein snack goes, which is the whole point of doing these reviews, I mean, it’s not really much protein.
You’re better off just grabbing a bag of M&M’s and calling it a day. You’ll only get a few grams of protein, but you can easily make up for the missing 5-8g of protein.
Taste-wise, these are certainly fine. But they’re not any healthier than M&M’s.
They’re M&M’s, but they added protein to them.
